A downloadable game for Windows and Linux

You have been sent to the plane of Iqmus (Hell) to collect Alaments for the Despai Corporation.

Expand your base to collect alaments and, at some point (possibly not this version) deal with or defend against the denizens of Iqmus.

A Bit of History and What are Alaments?

This game is set in the Dominion, an empire covering a huge swathe of the Cymbalis galaxy. Long ago, Cymbalis was seperated from the rest of the universe by a cosmic experiment. This caused Cymbalis to fracture into multiple planes, each of which is a parallel analog of normal space. One of the planes is Iqmus (where this game takes place).

An additional byproduct of the fracturing of Cymbalis was the formation of Alaments, which are an alternative form of matter that have a different structure to normal elements.

Alaments are immensely valuable, primarily because of their use in interstellar travel. A spaceship fitted with an alamental probe can pierce the veil between normal space (realspace) and hyperspace. Hyperspace provides a sort of shortcut between locations in realspace and other planes, although it is extremely perilous to attempt to travel to other planes via hyperspace.

The fracturing of Cymbalis also gave rise to magic, and temporary portals powered by experts in magic are the preferred method of moving between the planes. This is how you will be sent to Iqmus and, hopefully, be brought back again...

Controls

  • WASD or arrow keys to move the camera drone
  • Middle mouse button drag to rotate the camera drone
  • Mouse wheel to zoom in and out
  • Left mouse button for pretty much anything else
  • Click any item to see its menu

Getting Started

When you first run the game, you will need to add a player profile. Use the combined profile and preferences screen to also set your preferences once you have added a profile name. (The purpose of the profile is a stub for future use in case this ever gets as far as being released on a game store or other platform that uses profiles/user IDs.)

Bugs and Limitations

  • There is only one level at the moment.
  • Power restrictions/management is not implemented. This will be in the demo version up next (might be a while...).
  • There are no local inhabitants to interract with yet.
  • Several buildings are not yet implemented, but the baseline set of buildings is done.
  • Several resource deposits are still placeholders.
  • The full set of resources is not yet in place. Missing things include precious minerals and derived resources, munitions and so on.
  • A lot of buttons in the menus don't do anything.
  • The Worker Droid state machine is incomplete. Main things now missing are repairing buildings and combat.
  • Shadow glitching in the centre of the plain. This is an engine bug, as far as I can tell (even though the latest build of the game uses Godot 4.0 Stable).
  • The game might crash for unexpected reasons (mainly due to bugs still in the Gotot 4 engine), so save often.

Linux build:

  • No testing on this platform, but the game should run.

System Recommendations

3GHz CPU or better

Discreate graphics card is recommended, though should be OK on the newer CPUs with built-in GPUs

Made in Godot 4

Made in Godot 4 using the Forward+ renderer (so may not work on all PCs).

This game was originally created for Godot Wild Jam #53, but I missed the deadline. However, I have kept the temperature mechanic. Hence Worker Droids that are not in Barracks will take heat damage during the hottest parts of the day and run out of battery power faster in the coldest parts of the night.

Install instructions

To play the game, unpack the .zip file and run the extracted file. The unpacked game uses about 150Mb. Each saved game will need up to approximately 600kb, mostly depending on the size of the generated screenshot file.
